7:04 pm
cracker, and the prosecution just kept hitting on today. one of the reasons she kept on hitting on it, she said it in court yesterday, but did not say that when she was deposed. the prosecutors, the reason for that, i didn't want to use those words in front of his mother. >> two other witnesses, two neighbors, right? >> two neighbors on the stand today. one of them said -- >> let me -- >> one of them recalled seeing a man wearing black and red on top. as you may or may not know, george zimmerman wearing a black and red ensemble, a jacket with a sweatshirt underneath. and the other witness talked about different noises she heard outside, and that the fight was so loud, it sounded like it was about to come through her living room door. >> did either of the neighbors say she had actually seen the -- seen the two scuffling as the
7:05 pm
gun went off? >> not when the gun went off. some saw a little bit before, and one of the neighbors had seen george zimmerman as he was getting off of trayvon mart you know. last one on the stand. and she claim not only did she see him getting off of him, but he was the one on top during the sku scuffle in the grass. >> the woman who saw the scuffle, did she say she saw trayvon martin run at george zimmerman, or george zimmerman run at trayvon martin? >> that's the big question. nobody has been able to answer who ran at who, which is why rachel jeantel could be such an important witness. she is potentially the only one that heard the beginning of the fight and if jurors believe her, what she's testifying to. she's testifying that george zimmerman approached trayvon martin when he walked up to him and said -- well, trayvon martin
7:06 pm
turned around and said to george zimmerman, what are you following me for? and george zimmerman said something to the effect, what are you doing in this neighborhood, what are you doing around here? and the scuffle started after that. and she didn't actually see it with her own eyes, she's claiming that trayvon martin was yelling get off me. and she believes george zimmerman is the one that started this. >> do people in the courtroom think this witness jeantel, she sort of claimed sides, a partisan witness, or did people get the sense she was objectively reported what she saw, or heard? >> you know, she -- it goes back and forth. trying to protect the words that trayvon was saying, like creepy ass cracker and using an "n" word, she didn't want to use those words in front of his mother when she was giving a deposition in his mother's house in front of his mother.
7:07 pm
but at the same time when she is asked questions, it appears she is answering to the best of her ability. who am i to say if she's lying or not. >> rachel jeantel going a few more rounds with zimmerman's defense lawyer. take a look. >> you are saying you heard the headphones, and the next thing you heard was grass? >> yes, sir. >> can you describe that for me? when you say you could hear the grass, or even wet grass like you said yesterday, could you tell me how wet grass sounds?
7:08 pm
>> like running all over. >> when you said you heard wet grass, what did that sown like? >> somebody rolling on top of the grass. >> are you saying now you heard people rolling on the grass? >> objection. that's not what she's stating. >> do you. >> you asked her to describe, and she gave a description. >> joining us, ow legal panel in orlando. diana tennis, ted williams and bernie grimm. first to you, ted. >> look, i watcheded a part of this today with rachel jeantel. in a city, not sophisticated.
7:09 pm
i don't know if the prosecution prepared her well. that doesn't matter to me. she used common sense. >> it's not about common sense, it's what did she see? what did she hear? not her interpretation of the events. what did she see and hear? one part of a conversation. >> she gave as best she could. let me be candid with you. the defense attorney made himself look just a little ill. this is the same guy that used a knock knock and the same guy disrespectful to a woman on the stand. >> and hopefully they won't convict or acquit based on the lawyers. >> we don't get a feel of the optics of the jury, although holly gave us a good rendition. you could work on this woman two weeks and wear her down. any good defense attorney would. and a great defense attorney would ask a few questions.
7:10 pm
this is asking with the skills that god gave her, and starts to mock her and ask her if she can read. she will slant the story in a way that helps trayvon. when the dust settles, she was on the phone with trayvon. everybody on tv, calling her a star witness. not a star witness. >> not only a star witness, but gun given testimony subject to two different interferences, if it's a tie, george zimmerman comes out ahead on that. >> diana, your thoughts on this testimony? >> my thoughts, it's not this woman's fault that she came out discredited and uncredible. i totally agree, she came here with the skills that she has. not her fault, but fault lies on the government who decided to interview her in the home of the
7:11 pm
deceased boy's mother. the taint around the building of this star witness by the government is what makes her so uncredible at this point and make the whole prosecution look like a railroad job. it was horrible. never heard of it before. >> you know, it's interesting, forget that she was -- she might have been a witness not the most polished witness. what she didn't see the altercation, only knows that she's talking to someone on the phone who says someone is following him. doesn't know what happens later and hears certain things. only has a small part of the picture of what's going on. this case will go on several days. take a look at this. the eye rolls and yes, sirs. the second day on the stand for rachel jeantel. her demeanor changed today. >> you didn't know anything about this case on the news following the shooting on february 26th. prior to your interview with mr.

7:13 pm
the defense attorney made some thought that she didn't call 911 afterward. if you actually represented people in a situation like that, that doesn't surprise me so much. but think she doesn't have -- she has such an incomplete picture of what happened, i don't she she's so damning for the defense. >> the fact she didn't call 911 because a white guy is following a black kid, unfortunately, it happens every day in america, and i'm embarrassed how it happens. i don't think she helped or hurt either side. trayvon was on the phone. how do you know trayvon didn't just turn around and punch him in the face. how will he turn and punch him in the face with the phone in the same hand he is talking in. >> the dispatcher says are you following him? >> who is the he? >> we had this argument before. you have to say who he is. >> he, meaning trayvon.
7:14 pm
>> you mean zimmerman. >> hold on, the dispatcher says to zimmerman, are you following him? and at that phase, zimmerman says yes. and the dispatcher says you don't have to do that. and zimmerman says okay. and then he says he is running, we don't know if he's running toward him or running away. if you listen to jeantel, he's running away. i believe jeantel in that regard. >> diana. >> she don't have second degree murder without the jury believing every word out of her mouth. she is an acknowledged liar. totally discredited, so she's off the table. the state is going to have to prove this case without her. that's all there is too it. >> even if she isn't off the table, weren't discredited, not there, by telephone. she doesn't know who ran at who, doesn't know any of the pieces. even if she were a terrific

witness, incomplete picture of the facts, because she's not there. >> i understand that, but if die albia is on the jury, the jury will give some weight, whatever weight it wants to whatever she says. >> if she is shredded, they won't give a lot. >> diana is right. may not be able to get to second degree. if zimmerman takes the stand and says one wrong thing, he will get second degree and they will wish they could give him first degree. >> i don't think he's taking the stand. >> i don't either. >> he has to take the stand. >> absolutely not. to fill in the blanks? if they have imperfect witness who's don't have a pull picture, you will put zimmerman on the stand to fill in the blanks? >> he has to take the stand. nobody else can explain this but zimmerman. trayvon is there. and west looked pretty little trying to beat up on a dead man, calling him a liar.
